Happy Christmas!

I'm feeling extremely Christmassy this year.  Today I iced the cakes and sprinkled edible glitter all over them.  I saw my friends and we did Secret Santa and played silly games.  Erin and I stopped off at Sainsburys so she could get some chocolates for her mum and all the Christmas stuff was half price so I got some reindeer earrings.
Last night I watched this version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer which was really cute actually.  I love the design of the Reindeers, especially the girl one with the spotty bow.

This month I've made mince pies with Henry (he made most of them but I helped spoon some mince meat into the pastry) we went to a carol service and watched the Tailor of Gloucester. I'd never seen it before but it has a very Christmassy vibe.  I am a fan!

The other day I created marzipan figures for the Christmas cake.

I decorated the tree.
And Henrys mothers and Grandmothers tree too!

This is my favourite decoration from our tree.  My mum made it, I think before I was born:

It snowed and we went sledging in the dark.
Tonight I still want to watch the Hogfather at some point.  It's my favourite Christmas film. Not sure I'll have time though.
All in all it's been a very Christmassy December! (I'm making up for last year)

So all that's left for me to say is

Happy Christmas!

Have a sparkling glittertastic one!

I will leave you with this picture I drew yesterday of my Grandparents dog, Millie.  It's their Christmas present and as my blog is supposed to be about my own artwork I feel it is reasonably fitting.
and of course I also mustn't forget to say,

Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!

Waiting

This is the extremely unflattering picture I drew of my mum in the waiting room. She hates it. I think I have aged her about ten years!HOWEVER I did realise that public places like coffee shops and hospital waiting rooms are THE best places to find interesting people to draw. You get all sorts in there. The only problem is that you gotta sketch them really quickly because they're usually moving around.

Pictures in the tiles

You know when you're absent-mindedly staring at the wall or carpet or whatever and suddenly you realise there's all these people and animals and faces jumping out at you? Well for my new project I decided to draw the faces I can see in the bathroom tiles. I have actually changed my idea since this morning when I was doing all that but I thought I'd post a few up here anyway.

I really like this little guy ^

The Fairy Melusina

Its been ages but i've been ill for two weeks and now I am drowning in the amount of work i have to do.

Sue told me to fill a whole book of just people and faces for one of my final pieces for the recession project. It's because I really need to work on drawing faces and giving them actual character instead of just identical blank expressions which is what I usually do!

This is one of my favourite ones I did:
it's drawn from a random photograph that I found on deviant art.

Anyway we are doing different projects now. We have three to do in 6 weeks!!! I have written a book and am illustrating it for one of the projects which is quite scary because I literally have SO much work to do. I am painting the second picture for it now. (only the second! eek) It has taken me all day so far and I feel really nervous about how it is going to turn out.

My book involves a tattoo studio and so for research I went to Shades of Grey which is a tattoo studio in Hitchin and asked if I could draw while the guy worked. The lady in there had pink hair! It made me miss having pink hair :(
I think being a tattooist would be quite cool but I would never have the confidence to put a needle in someones skin without being worried about making a mistake.

Theses are designs for the three characters in the story:
This is Mrs Needleskin. She runs the Tattoo parlour with her husband Mr Needleskin (below). They are quite old as you can see but this means that they are very good at their job and people come from far and wide to get tattoos from Mr and Mrs Needleskin.
And THIS is the Fairy called Melusina who lives in a cardboard castle in Mr and Mrs Needlekins attic at the top of their tall creepy house and causes CHAOS.
It's only a kind of rough drawing of her. I want to improve her and obviously make her wings look better and things. Also she will be wearing clothes. I just haven't decided what yet so I didnt draw them.

Candycane Girl

This was the picture I drew whilst watching the Grinch because there are two characters dressed up in similar costumes. In fact all the costumes are really interesting in the Grinch. Cindy Lou wears a teactcup on her head at one point, full of milk!

The Family Portrait

Its Christmas Eve tomorrow! :) I am so excited! I decorated the tree the other day ON MY OWN. My sister and brother are too lazy to help do it now. It is all red and gold with tinsel and chocolates and stuff on it :D Ive been doing a lot of practicing drawing faces, especially mens face because I find it really hard to draw men's faces so that you can actually tell they are men and not women with short hair.

I tried to draw some pictures of my family but after a while i gave up and traced pictures of them instead so that they have more of a likeness. I am going to give the drawing to my Dad, my Grandad and my Grandma for Christmas.I am the one wearing the cat hood.

I reay admire the illustrators Tony Ditlerizzi and Chris Riddell for the way that they are able to draw such characterful faces.

ALSO i bought some half price pink fluffy fairyights today!

Illustration City!

This was so cool! Some people even made cars and street signs and there was a tramp and a garden with a camp fire and a tent! Looking inside the houses was really fun too.
I especially liked this one^ I don’t know whos it is though so I hope they don’t mind me putting it on here.
I also really liked this one^ because it looed like an actual PROPER miniature apartment. Really realistic with the carpet and the lamp and everything. I THINK it was made by someone called Natalie in 3rd yr but I’m not sure…
Yet again I do not know who made this one ^ but I liked it! The same goes for this one:
Can't remember who did this one either but it is really cute:
I t was a shame that the fairylights in my apartment did not show up because the light was too bright in the room but never mind.

Rob Shadbolt did a kind of leaving speech and said it’s going to be weird for us next year because they probably wont get a replacement for him until the summer so they are going to have to share the tutors round more :S. He also told us to judge our work against the professionals and aim high and to think outside the artschool cos its a small world.

Anyway tomorrow is the last day of term and I am going to go Christmas shopping to take advantage of Norwich and the better shops that are here before I go home on Sunday! :D
