Fish and Carpets

We went to the sailing club one day in Dubai and there was this massive poster with all these fish on it. Some of them were really weird looking, stripy, spotty, spiky, scaly... I drew a few:I never realised before that there are sharks in the sea over there!

I drew this on the plane on the back of a Costa bag. Costa does THE best frapuccinos, you know those blended ice drinks? Maybe they're called Frescatos I don't know. Anyway after tasting the Cafe Nero and Starbucks ones many times this summer, Costa definitely wins hands down! Anyway this isn't supposed to be a review. These are people with carpets on their heads:And finally! This is my last post on my adventures in Dubai. I've run out of pictures to put up drawn on random pieces of paper and leaflets that I've picked up. It's back to drawing on plain white paper again!

Underwater swimming

We did a lot of swimming in Dubai
it's hard to actually do any excersise in the pool though
because the water is SO warm!
Like a bath.
You end up just flopping about in it.
I drew these on some blue plastic bags with a permanent pen
I like the way the scanner made the writing on the back of the 'page' shine through.

There's no time left for outdoor swimming in England now!
Too cold!
I don't mind though, I like autumn and winter.
I like wearing tights and boots and scarfs
I like fireworks night and Halloween and CHRISTMAS!
Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year!
But let's not wish the time away!

Red Lipstick and Chandeliers

I flew on Emirates to Dubai last week.
They were amazing!
SO many channels on the TV
I got to watch Beetlejuice and listen to dolphin music.
AND they had tetris!
I did loads of drawing too:The air hostesses had BRIGHT, SHINY red lipstick-
I could almost see my reflection in it.
Everything else was beige.
even the bits of paper on the food trays (see below)
which also had a really weird texture
like velvet
I drew these from a magazine
The amount of things to draw when you're sitting facing the back of another seat is slightly limited.
I love middle eastern design, it's so intricate and detailed!
I always find Dubai such an inspiration when I go there.
Even the pillars at the airport are glittery!

Taste the rainbow

There were skittles in this gumball machine in Dubai,
that I drew and painted on a shopping voucher I picked up at the airport.
I like rainbows
They are nice.

I don't much like green and yellow and orange skittles though
I only eat the red and purple ones.
What's your favourite flavour?

Swirly Twirly Whirly

Some of the amazingly intricate swirly twirly whirly gates I saw while I was in Dubai^ Some of the houses/villas out there are like palaces! No joke!

I want this perfume just for the packaging! ha^

Dubai!

I came back from Dubai 3 days ago. It was awesome there, you can do anything! They even had a ski slope and an aquarium in the mall! I felt really sorry for the seals though, they were in a tiny tank :( Dubai was great but it is also (i realised) a city of exploitation.

Anyway this was my absolutely favourite thing I saw out there. It was a fountain in some mansion villa's front garden round the corner from us. In the night time it was all lit up and so so pretty. I want one in my garden!

Every time we drove back to our villa I asked my mum to slow the car down so I could take a photo of the fountain as we passed it. I did eventually get a picture but there was a man standing outside the house and he saw me take it so then my Dad thought they were following us to find out where we lived (because it's a bit dodgy to take photos of other peoples houses) and so he was like DRIVE DRIVE! And we drove right past our own house to 'put them off the scent' but of course there was no one following us and my mum did a u turn and we went home.

These are the eels that I saw in the aquarium. I absolutely LOVE them! They are so cute! They were all waving about in the sand really tranquilly. I want one as a pet. Eels are one of my favourite animals ever since I read a book about a boy who takes his pet eels to the beach and he buys them all little eel swimming costumes and they all go and have fun at the seaside. But then they get eaten by a shark :s
Below are pictures of the lovely green and orange colour combination kitchen, the hallway and one of the bathrooms. Everything seems to be so ornate in Dubai! There are a lot of patterns and shapes everywhere. I think I am going to do my next project on pattern in nature and how it corresponds to man made patterns.
