Ice Dancer

Finally, as promised, a piece of illustration work!

This is a recent commission I did of an ice skater. I really enjoyed making her and finally getting to use some of my sparkly netting fabric for the skirt!  I wish I had the skill to make the glitter on the skirt sparkle more on camera.

I think this image goes quite well alongside the ballet dancer girl I did a while back.  Maybe I should make some sort of dancer illustration set...

That is all. Hope you're all having good weeks! xox

Fairies

More practice at drawing kids...
I so loved fairies when I was a kid. (Actually I'm not gonna lie, I still do)  I remember writing tiny little fairy letters and leaving them round the house and garden in the hope that they would be read and replied to!  I used to try and trick my sister by leaving tiny fair notes and pretending that they were from the Fairy Queen. Alas she was never fooled!

Anyway this is my last post for the night. (I have just done a mass posting session so sorry for spamming your dashboards/feeds) I just had such a backlog of work that I wanted to put on my blog. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think!

Ballerina

At last! Something new and un related to my exhibition!

I made this little ballerina birthday card for my friend Sian whose birthday it was the other week.  I partly made it because I know Sian loves dancing and partly because I had an urge to create a character who was wearing a tutu.

I thought you might be interested to see the process I went through to make this image so I took a few shots along the way...

This ballerina started out with brown hair and pencil lines.
outlining...
cutting out carefully...
the tutu is made from scrunched up tulle/netting.
I hope you like her, I want to make more!

What have you been up to this week?  Henry and I have been to Derby to visit his mother.   We went shopping and bought clothes for Dubai, we ate chocolate ganache and scampi and chips, we went to a really old pub and had a drink (fizzy water with lemon for me), we went to the park and walked the dog and we watched lots of episodes of 'Pulling' and a few films (one called 'The secret window' which was really good and had Johnny Depp in it.)  I definitely feel nicely relaxed now!

Hope you're having a wondeful weekend too,

glitter, sequins and diamond baubles

I've changed my blog header!  For the first time ever! What do you think?

Over the past few days I have been experimenting with re-making my Christmas card design in 3d.  I don't know why but whenever I do a drawing nowadays I can't resist trying it in 3d too. I'm addicted!

This is the 3d version (as seen in my new header!):

And the original version (minus glitter):
Which do you prefer?

It was the tutu skirt that swung it for me.  I kept envisioning Victoria Stitch's black dress/skirt made from a load of scrunched up black netting like a tutu. I just HAD to try it. And I love it how it came out!

The white Christmas tree is made from pipe cleaners and glitter.  It had little diamonds and stars stuck onto it.  I also had a lot of fun making the tiny little presents and sparkly angel and striped bag.  I think I am addicted to making tiny things!

I wonder what's in all those packages?  I think there might be a tiny pair of glittery shoes in one of them.  And the round one has to be a tin of chocolates.

While I was photographing the scene I noticed that in some of them the shadows were really long.  So I took some shadow photos!  I think they look pretty cool.

I've been having a lot of fun with glitter recently.  And sequins! Christmas = glitter and sequins!  Actually anytime = glitter and sequins for me.  But I've been using them especially lately for my Christmas cards.  Oh it makes me happy!

Yesterday Henry and I went into town to do some shopping.  I wore my new dalmatian print coat.  It's so soft and warm!  I love it.  It makes me feel like Cruella D'eville!

We bought some christmas presents, some food and I got some winter boots because my other ones have worn down and the heels are all wonky.  Henry tried on lots of glasses in Claire's accessories.  It was a nice day.

I hope you had a nice day too!

Yours glitteringly

Character Design

This character lives in a house of cake with pale pink walls and silver balls round the windows.  She bakes lots of cakes for her bakery but likes to abstain from eating too many cupcakes herself, which is why she is so skinny.  She just likes the look of the things. Especially the mountains of pastel coloured icing.
This couple- Duke Cornelius Crumpet and Duchess Cornelius Crumpet like to attend the tea parties in the cake house though the Duke is a grump who does not like socializing.  He just goes for the food.

These two are party animals.  They attend at least five social events per week.  They live in a black castle of which half is closed up and in ruins. They have three pet bats called Cuthbertina, Benjamina and Thomasina who live in the dark red curtains of their massive four poster bed.  They also have a black cat called Ginkgo Jellyboots who has a white star on his nose and who is afraid of mice.

Cloud nine gets all the publicity but cloud eight is actually cheaper, less crowded and has a better view- George Carlin

I DO believe in fairies!

Londonnn baby!
One of my favourite places to be
so busy and inspiring

A few weeks ago me and my good friend Bruno went to see Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.
Peter Pan is my all time favourite book/film!
So I was extremely excited.

Me and Bruno drew each other on the tube.
A random man randomly judged our pictures.
This is my picture of Bruno:Peter Pan was AMAZING!
If you havn't seen it you must!!
It's going to hit the O2 soon I think.

Anyway. Tinkerbell was wearing a PINK TUTU and had FAIRYLIGHTS in her hair! She was played by Itxaso Moreno and was absolutely perfect for it! She was very fiesty and rude and funny but also quite cute.
How Tinkerbell is meant to be.
It's a shame you can't really see the lights in her hair in the picture.
They were so cool.

This is a Starbucks in London......where we had coffee suprisingly enough.

On the subject of plays and films I saw Dorian Gray last night.
Has anyone else seen it?
What did you think of it?

I found it quite scary but it was one of those films I found my self thinking about all next day.
Really dark, and I didn't like it WHILE I was watching it but looking back on it I think it was a good film.
Interesting, disturbing, gothic.

Fairylights Muncher

These are more ideas for the conversation piece brief. I really like the top one although I might put a background in it like some stripy wallpaper or something. I'm not sure that it needs it though.I need to work on faces a lot more. i do not like the one below as much and I am not sure that it works as well for the brief but never mind.
And yay for my 'Ottoline and the yellow cat' book arriving today! :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! (for midnight)
