Waiting
This is the extremely unflattering picture I drew of my mum in the waiting room. She hates it. I think I have aged her about ten years!
HOWEVER I did realise that public places like coffee shops and hospital waiting rooms are THE best places to find interesting people to draw. You get all sorts in there. The only problem is that you gotta sketch them really quickly because they're usually moving around.

I want to go to the fair!
There's this common near where I live where the fair comes to every few weeks or so in the summer. You can hear the music playing from my house. I like going to it because there's such an atmosphere there with all the flashing lights and screaming and the smell of candyfloss.

Favourite ride ever is always the carousel even though it's not the most exciting. I just like the look of it. The best carousel I ever went on was at the Queen's Jubilee party in London where there was an adult one. It was huge and the horses on it were massive and it went really fast. It was free as well I spent most of the day on there!

Dorrie the little witch
These were some of my absolutely favourite books when I was little. Slightly creepy but very adorable. Dorrie is a little witch who's hat is on crooked and who's socks never match. She lives with her mother the big witch and her cat Gink. Dorrie and Gink get into all sorts of mischief. The illustrations are usually done in one or two colours which I think adds to their charm.
One of the books i specifically remember is 'Dorrie's play' but I can't seem to find it ANYWHERE! It never ever comes up on ebay or anywhere else really which is a shame. I wonder why.

Dress Me!
This time last year for a project we had to draw everything we owned! I decided to make a cut out paper doll of myself (kind of- i had pink hair at the time and wore a lot of stripy tights and stockings) and make miniature versions of all my clothes out of paper and material. Then I put velcro on the back of the clothes so that they would stick onto the doll like one of those dress up dolls you can buy. (i love those!)
This isn't really what my bedroom looks like by the way^ I wish it did. (minus the spiders) And I wish my legs were really that skinny! haha. I miss having pink hair!
I don't actually own that pouffy pink dress either but everything else yes. Things I really should wear more are my black pvc coat (i alwasy forget i have it!), my tutus and my shoes with see through heels. All stuff that just sits in my wardrobe gathering dust at the moment :s

Milk the Glitter Monster
We have been creating monsters for one of our next projects which has actually been really hard! I underestimated how difficult it would be to invent something that looks original and I still havn't cracked it!
This is a glitter monster. You would find it in ugly, desolate, dark places where it will do it's best to breathe a bit of life into the place. Compositionally it's not quite right because of that curvy black pipe that looks like it's coming out of it's nose! Also I am not sure it really fits in well with the surrounding. It's head/face is apparantly too cutesy as well. twee, whatever you want to call it. ALSO the collage isn't that great. I was quite pleased with this until I went to my crit but now I see all the flaws and I don't like it so much any more!
My tutors preferred these:
I am thinking I might do a book, concertina book, poster of ink blot monsters now instead?!

Easter
I meant to put these up ages ago but have had so much work to do! Over Easter I went on a retreat to Ampleforth Abbey and I drew and drew and drew until I had drawings coming out of my ears! It was such a good four days though!

Pictures in the tiles
You know when you're absent-mindedly staring at the wall or carpet or whatever and suddenly you realise there's all these people and animals and faces jumping out at you? Well for my new project I decided to draw the faces I can see in the bathroom tiles. I have actually changed my idea since this morning when I was doing all that but I thought I'd post a few up here anyway.

I really like this little guy ^

The Fairy Melusina
I had a crit yesterday and Rob seemed to like my book so that was cool. I haven't had a good crit in a while so I was very happy. It is really almost done now. I just need to re do one page and design the front cover and THEN put it all together which I am dreading because I am not good at stuff like that!
Mrs Needleskin in the bathroom^ Melusina has been having fun with the bubble bath!
This is the scene where Melusina is having a party in her cardboard castle at midnight and all the other banished fairies are coming out to play.
This is Mr Needleskin inventing in his workshop^ I think the character position looks a little bit stiff but oh well.I spent a lot of the day today helping out for the CU exhibition tomorrow. I had to paint the boards white and wear one of those massive boiler suits. I am just exhibiting my Death of a Cupcake book again because I can't think of anything else! Oh and I got absolutely SOAKED last night walking home from going out. It was horrible icy rain and I looked like a drowned rat. An emo rat because my eyeliner had run everywhere. My coat was dripping on the back of my door for ages. None of that was very relevant was it? never mind. But ACTUALLY that reminds me! Yesterday my Camille Rose Garcia book came in the post! :) I love her illustrations. I especially like the little blue octopus character with the emo eyes (see theres my link!) I would recommend 'The Magic Bottle' to anyone!

Melusina again^

The Fairy Melusina
I can finally upload some of my double page spreads for 'The Fairy Melusina' book!
These are just prototypes of how it's going to look. I know there's still some spelling mistakes in there! lol.

I'm hoping to have finished all the pages by the end of the weekend so that then I can put the book together. I want to try and bind it like we were shown last week. I can't wait to finish it now though. It's taken so long!

The Fairy Melusina
I am still working working working on the pages for my 'Fairy Melusina' book. This^ is the cardboard castle that Melusina lives in, in the attic of a tall green house. I can't upload any double page spreads yet cos my scanner isn't big enough.
This is the one other single page illustration I've done, where Melusina has stuck multicoloured feathers to Mrs Needleskins eyelashes whilst she is asleep.
